The French island of Mayotte sits on the Indian Ocean in East Africa and it is tucked somewhere in between Mozambique and Madagascar. Mayotte became a French overseas territory in 1843 when it was ceded alongside the Comoros islands.

The Spanish exclave of Ceuta is found in North Africa. Despite being an autonomous city in the region, it has been administered by Spain since 15th century and it is in African continent. Existing largely unknown by most people, Ceuta at last came into spotlight of the world in 2005 alongside its sister exclave of Melilla as people tried to climb the bordering fence.
